Pack a waterproof whatever the month. Bilbao is one of Spain's wettest cities, averaging around 1,130mm of rain a year over roughly 120 rainy days, according to AEMET's figures for the airport. Even July and August see about seven wet days each. Daytime highs reach around 23°C in June, 25–26°C in July and August and about 25°C in September, while winter days sit at around 13–14°C.
November is the month to think twice about: it is the wettest of the year at almost 150mm, with December and January close behind and only around 80–90 hours of sunshine a month. April also catches people out, at about 107mm of rain over 12 or 13 days. For a spring trip, May is the better bet, with highs of around 21°C and noticeably less rain.
One date to know for 2027: the Bilbao BBK Live music festival is scheduled for 8–10 July on Mount Kobetamendi, overlooking the city. Check your dates against it if you would rather avoid the extra crowds, or plan around it if live music is part of the appeal.
