This is the Black Sea, not the Mediterranean, and the season is shorter as a result. Highs in Burgas average around 22°C in May, 26–27°C in June and 29°C in July and August, then drop to about 25°C in September and 19°C in October. Winters are cold, with January highs of around 7°C and nights near freezing. The sea off Sunny Beach is about 22°C in June, 25–26°C in July and August and 23°C in September, but only around 16°C in May.
Rain is spread fairly evenly through the year, often as short thunderstorms in early summer, and August is usually the driest month. Sunny Beach is a purely seasonal resort: most hotels, bars and restaurants run from May to early October and close for the winter.
The best window is mid-June to mid-September. Early September is the smart choice, with the sea still warm, quieter beaches and lower demand once the summer holidays end.
