Your flight lands at La Romana International Airport, where your driver is waiting for the short run along the coast road. Check in to your Junior Suite and keep the first evening simple. After the long flight, an early dinner and an early night help you settle in.
Spend the first full day getting your bearings. Walk the bay, pick a favourite pool and work out where the shade falls in the afternoon. Reserve your à la carte dinners for the week today, because tables are subject to availability and the popular evenings go first.
Altos de Chavón is a replica 16th-century Mediterranean village with cobbled lanes, St Stanislaus Church, artisan workshops and a small archaeological museum. Allow a morning or an afternoon, then come back to the resort for a swim before dinner.
Book a treatment at the resort spa, ideally mid-morning before the heat peaks. Then take the afternoon slowly between the pool, the beach and the bars. In the evening, try one of the à la carte restaurants you reserved earlier, perhaps the Italian.
A catamaran day to Saona or Catalina Island is the classic excursion from this coast, with time on the sand and a snorkelling stop. If you would rather stay put, the resort offers non-motorised watersports such as kayaking and paddleboarding straight off its beach.

December to April is the driest stretch and the most settled for a beach week.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November. Most storm activity falls between mid-August and mid-October, so an October week carries a higher chance of a wet or windy spell. Check your insurance covers weather disruption.
May and early December sit outside the peak storm window and are good shoulder choices if you cannot travel in the dry season.
Where a direct flight from London is available, it takes around 9 hours out and about 8½ hours back. A routing with a change of plane takes longer. The Dominican Republic stays on UTC−4 all year, so it is 4 hours behind the UK in winter and 5 in summer.
British passport holders can stay up to 30 days without a visa. The FCDO says your passport only needs to be valid for the length of your stay, for arrivals up to 31 December 2026. Recheck that rule if you travel in 2027.
Before you fly, complete the free e-Ticket form at eticket.migracion.gob.do, up to 7 days ahead. You get one QR code for arrival and another for departure. Carry proof of your return flight as well.
Altos de Chavón sits inside the Casa de Campo estate, high above the Chavón River, and was built in 1976. Check the amphitheatre listings before you fix the day, as a concert night is worth planning around.
Saona Island covers 110 km² and is part of Cotubanamá National Park. Boats leave from Bayahibe, east of La Romana, and the usual stop on the way is the Palmilla natural pool. The FCDO advises checking the boat operator's safety standards and making sure your insurance covers the trip.
It works for couples, friends and solo guests who want a quiet resort week with calm water. It does not suit anyone after nightlife beyond the resort bars, or a town to stroll into after dinner. La Romana is a drive away, so evenings out mean a taxi.
Seven nights gives you six full days between the arrival and departure days, which leaves room for one excursion. Ten nights gives nine, enough for both day trips with pool days in between, and costs more per person.
