Couples holidays from the UK come in three shapes. There is the long-haul beach week, the two- or three-stop trip that pairs a city with a beach, and the short-haul week with no jet lag. This guide to luxury holidays for couples covers 13 destinations, then sorts the all-inclusive resorts, budgets and multi-centre routes.

How to choose a couples holiday

Settle four things together before you compare hotels.

• Flight time. A 10-hour flight costs most of the first day. On seven nights that matters. On twelve it barely does.
• Pace. One resort suits a couple who want to stop. Two or three stops suit restless couples, at the cost of a packing morning per move.
• Board. All-inclusive pays where the hotel is the only place to eat. Breakfast-only works where restaurants are a walk or a short taxi away.
• Budget. Agree a per-person figure, then add the meals and taxes the package leaves out.

The Maldives: overwater villas for couples

The Maldives suits couples who want to do very little in a lot of privacy. Couples who get bored without a change of scene should go elsewhere. We sell it as the second half of a twin-centre, because the Gulf connection breaks the journey anyway.

• Abu Dhabi and Maldives: 4 nights at the St Regis Saadiyat Island, then 6 nights in an overwater villa at the St Regis Maldives Vommuli, with a shared seaplane transfer.
• Dubai and Maldives: Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, a beach resort on the West Crescent of Palm Jumeirah, then an overwater villa with its own plunge pool at Ayada Maldives. The package flies with Emirates or Qatar Airways.

Both are bed and breakfast, so lunch and dinner are billed at resort prices plus 17% tourism GST. Resorts also charge a green tax of US$12 per person per night. Over six nights the green tax alone is US$144 for two, so check your quote includes it.

Mauritius and Dubai: a city-and-beach pairing

Our Dubai and Mauritius twin-centre starts with 3 nights in a Fairmont Room at the Fairmont Dubai, a city hotel rather than a beach one. Then come 7 nights in a Garden View Room at SALT of Palmar on the east coast. Both are bed and breakfast, with private transfers.

SALT adds honeymoon extras, including a decorated room and a spa credit each. On an anniversary trip, ask if they still apply.

Mauritius Meteorological Services gives a mean of 24.7°C in the November–April summer and 20.4°C in the June–September winter. February and March are the wettest months.

Dubai: a stopover or a short stay for couples

Dubai works best as two to four nights at the start of a longer trip, not as the whole holiday. Emirates flies non-stop from Heathrow in about seven hours, and the onward flight to the Indian Ocean is short.

We sell Dubai as part of a twin-centre, so the real choice is the style of hotel. A Palm Jumeirah resort keeps you on the beach, with the city a taxi ride away. A city hotel suits couples who would rather eat out than lie by a pool.

It does not suit couples who want to walk everywhere. Distances are long, and most evenings start with a taxi. Your passport needs six months’ validity from the date you land.

Thailand: islands, Bangkok and an adults-only tree house

The Thailand city, beach and tree house holiday opens with 3 nights at Century Park Hotel in Bangkok. Next comes Sunprime Kamala Beach in Phuket, and it finishes with 3 nights in a tree house villa at the adults-only TreeHouse Villas on Koh Yao Noi. The shorter Phuket and Krabi beach retreat splits its time between Best Western Premier Bangtao Beach and Krabi La Playa in Ao Nang.

Both trips stay on the Andaman coast. Koh Samui, on the Gulf coast, gets most of its rain from September to December, so it is the better pick for a July or August trip, which we tailor.

Virgin Atlantic starts non-stop Heathrow to Phuket flights on 18 October 2026, three a week through the winter on a Boeing 787-9. On the launch schedule it leaves Heathrow at noon and lands at 07:10 the next morning, so plan a quiet first day. Neither package names an airline, and yours is confirmed at booking.

The visa-free allowance in force from 15 September 2026 covers tourism only, normally two entries a calendar year. Complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card in the three days before arrival, and check your passport has six months left and a blank page. Bali: villas, rice terraces and culture

The romantic Bali escape gives you 5 nights at Suara Alam in Ubud among the rice fields and 3 nights in a bamboo house at Hideout Bali. The last 4 nights are in a one-bedroom private-pool villa at Seascape in Sanur.

All three are bed and breakfast. Hideout Bali is out of town, so ask how you will get to dinner there. Ubud traffic is slow, and couples who hate sitting in a car between sights may prefer to stay put in Sanur.

Bali has more entry paperwork than anywhere else in this guide:

• A passport with six months’ validity and two blank pages.
• A single-entry visa on arrival, IDR 500,000 each, valid for 30 days.
• The Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000 each, payable online or on arrival.
• The free All Indonesia arrival card, completed within 72 hours of landing.

Japan: culture and calm for couples

Japan suits couples who travel for food, design and walking rather than a beach. The pattern that works is a few nights in Tokyo or Kyoto, then two at a ryokan, a traditional inn with hot-spring baths.

We tailor Japan to your dates, with the price quoted for your trip. JNTO puts the rainy season from early June to mid-July and the typhoon peak in August and September. Cherry blossom moves north from Okinawa in January to Hokkaido in May. Autumn colour runs the other way, from Hokkaido in September to the south in December.

Japan’s departure tax rose from ¥1,000 to ¥3,000 per person on 1 July 2026. It is added to the air fare. Your passport only needs to be valid for the length of your stay. It is a poor fit if one of you wants pool days.

Sri Lanka: temples, tea country and two coasts

A Sri Lanka route for couples usually runs from the Cultural Triangle temples to the tea hills, then ends on a beach. The catch is that two monsoons hit opposite coasts, so your month decides which beach you finish on. October and November fall between the two monsoons and are the wettest months island-wide, so we avoid a beach finish then.

Kerala, India: backwaters and a houseboat night

Kerala is a touring holiday, not a beach week, with a hotel change every two or three nights. Couples who want to unpack once should look elsewhere. Both tours include a night on a deluxe houseboat at Alleppey.

• Luxury Kerala tour: Kochi, The Tall Trees in Munnar, Spice Village in Thekkady, the houseboat, then Marari Beach.
• Enchanting Kerala tour: Kochi, Munnar, Cardamom County in Thekkady, the houseboat, Paravur and a heritage stay to finish.

Kerala Tourism sells the monsoon as Ayurveda season, so a wet-season trip can be built around treatments rather than sightseeing.

The Amalfi Coast, Italy: a short-haul alternative

The Amalfi Coast gives you clifftop towns and sea views without a long-haul flight. We tailor it for five to seven nights. Expect steps: the towns climb straight up from the sea, so it suits couples who are happy to walk.

Your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years and be valid for three months after you leave the Schengen area. The EU Entry/Exit System is running, so expect fingerprints and a photo at the border on your first trip. ETIAS, a paid travel authorisation, is expected to start in late 2026. Check before you travel.

Short-haul couples holidays: Greece, Cyprus and Morocco

All four include breakfast and are priced for your dates:

• Santorini: 7 nights at Canaves Oia Epitome in Oia, with private transfers.
• Athens: 7 nights at the Hotel Grande Bretagne, for museums and the Acropolis rather than a sunbed.
• Larnaca: the Radisson Blu Larnaca, with return UK flights and private airport transfers.
• Agadir: 7 nights at Sofitel Agadir Royal Bay on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, with private transfers and flights from London, Manchester or Birmingham.

For Morocco, your passport needs three months’ validity from arrival. Check the border officer stamps it on entry.

Cyprus is also outside the Entry/Exit System, so there is no fingerprint registration on arrival in Larnaca.

All-inclusive couples holidays

What is the difference between couples-only and adults-only?

Both keep children out. An adults-only resort sets a minimum age and takes any adult booking, including groups of friends. A couples-only resort sells rooms to pairs only. Couples Swept Away is the one couples-only resort here. Bahia Principe Luxury Bouganville takes guests aged 18 and over, and Pineapple Beach Club and the Sandals resorts are adults-only.

Caribbean all-inclusive resorts

• Sandals Regency La Toc, St Lucia: a 9-hole golf course, plus “Stay at 1, Play at 3” access to two other Sandals resorts on the island.
• Sandals Ochi, Jamaica: on the Ocho Rios coast, with flights on Virgin Atlantic or British Airways, typically from Gatwick.
• Sandals Royal Caribbean, Montego Bay: Sandals Cay, a small private island offshore, and “Stay at 1, Play at 2”.
• Couples Swept Away, Negril: couples-only, on Seven Mile Beach.
• Pineapple Beach Club, Antigua: a four-star resort on Long Bay, adults-only, flying from Gatwick, Heathrow or Manchester.
• Bahia Principe Luxury Bouganville, La Romana: a Junior Suite and its own beach. Some routes are indirect.

All-inclusive beyond the Caribbean

The Doha and Maldives twin-centre is all-inclusive at both ends. You start at the Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha, then take a domestic flight and seaplane to Adaaran Select Meedhupparu, a four-star resort in Raa Atoll on premium all-inclusive.

Caribbean paperwork

• St Lucia: up to six weeks. Online immigration form in the three days before landing, and a passport valid beyond departure.
• Jamaica: usually up to 90 days. C5 immigration and customs form, and two blank passport pages.
• Antigua: up to 90 days, with six months’ passport validity and proof of a return ticket.
• Dominican Republic: 30 days. Online e-ticket up to seven days before arrival. A passport valid just for your stay is accepted until 31 December 2026, so recheck for 2027.

Couples holidays by budget

• October leaves within weeks. In November 2026, La Toc is £1,939, Pineapple Beach Club £2,099, the tree house trip £1,949 and Doha and Maldives £2,879. Abu Dhabi and Maldives is on request from November to February.
• Peak months. A February 2027 week at La Toc is £3,609, almost double its October price. The Phuket and Krabi trip is on request for December to March.
• Rainy-season savings. Both Kerala tours are cheapest in the monsoon. In October 2026 they start at £1,929 for 13 nights and £1,939 for 10. The lowest 2026 price on Dubai and Mauritius is £1,909, in December.
• Length. Ten nights at Bahia Principe cost £1,629 in October 2026, only £250 more than seven.

Multi-centre couples holidays from the UK

Two stops suit couples whose ideas of a holiday differ: one of you gets the city, the other the beach. Each move costs half a day, so keep 10 nights to two stops and save three for 12 to 14 nights.
