Izmir has hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Highs average around 31°C in June and 34°C in July and August, about 21°C in April and 26°C in May, then fall to roughly 25°C in October and 13°C in January. On summer afternoons the imbat, a sea breeze off the gulf, takes the edge off the heat along the Kordon. Inland at Ephesus there is no such relief, so go early in the morning.
Almost all the rain falls between November and March, with December and January the wettest months at well over 100mm each. The Aegean off Çeşme is cooler than on Turkey's south coast, reaching about 22°C in June and 24°C in August and staying above 21°C into October.
April to early June and mid-September to October suit a city-and-sites trip best. Expect Çeşme and the coastal roads to be busy during the two religious holidays, Ramazan Bayramı (9–11 March 2027) and Kurban Bayramı (16–19 May 2027), when many Turkish families travel.
