Palma's dining scene has evolved dramatically in recent years, with a cluster of innovative restaurants drawing international food media attention. The island's local wines, sobrasada sausage, and ensaïmades pastries add an authentic Mallorcan dimension to every meal.
Palma's climate follows a classic Mediterranean pattern. Highs are around 15°C in January, 20°C in April and 24°C in May, rising to 28°C in June and about 31°C in July and August. The sea lags behind the air, at around 19°C in May and 23°C in June. It is warmest in August at about 27°C and holds at around 26°C in September and 23°C in October.
Summers are close to rainless, but storms return from September, and October to December is the wettest stretch, with rain on around six days a month. October is the most underrated month for a beach-and-city mix, with highs in the mid-20s and sea still warm enough for a proper swim.
Palma itself works year-round. In winter, highs of around 15°C, short queues at La Seu and plenty of sunshine suit a city break with mountain walks, but treat any swim from December to April as a bracing one. July and August bring the highest demand on flights from the UK.
