The Costa del Sol earned its nickname "Costa del Golf" largely because of Marbella. The area has over 50 courses within easy reach, including several ranked among Europe's finest. The mild climate makes golf a year-round option.
Marbella's long sandy coastline is dotted with sophisticated beach clubs offering sun loungers, cocktails, and restaurant service. The sea is warm from June through October, with calmer waters than many Atlantic-facing destinations.
Málaga airport's weather station, the closest long-running record to Marbella, shows typical highs of about 17°C in January, 21°C in April, 28°C in June and just over 30°C in July and August. Summer is almost rain-free. Most of the year's rain falls between October and April, and November and December are the wettest months at around 100mm each.
The sea is cooler than many people expect. This stretch of coast is close to the Strait of Gibraltar, so the water is typically about 20°C in June and peaks at around 22–23°C in August, then stays near 20°C into October. Afternoon sea breezes take the edge off summer heat, and the easterly levante brings the occasional blustery day.
For a mix of beach and sightseeing, late May, June and the second half of September into mid-October are the strongest months. Two events push up demand in Málaga itself: Semana Santa, which runs from 21 to 28 March in 2027 with processions through the city centre, and the Feria de Málaga in mid-August. Book early if your dates overlap either.
