AEMET's records for the city show average highs of about 16–17°C from December to February, 21°C in April, 27°C in June and around 30°C in July and August, when humidity makes it feel hotter than the number suggests. July is the driest month. For walking the old town and cycling the Turia gardens, April, May and October are the most comfortable.
Autumn is the season to watch. September and October are Valencia's wettest months, with around 70–77mm each, and the rain often arrives as short, violent downpours from a cut-off low, known locally as a DANA or gota fría. The October 2024 floods south of the city, when Turís recorded 621mm in six hours, were an extreme case, but heavy storms are a real autumn risk.
Winter is a good option for a city break. January highs in the mid-teens and around 170 hours of sunshine a month make Valencia far brighter than the UK. Expect hotel rates and crowds to jump during Las Fallas.
