Girona, the medieval city just inland from the coast, is home to El Celler de Can Roca – repeatedly crowned the world's finest restaurant. Coastal villages serve impeccably fresh fish and seafood alongside wines from the acclaimed Empordà appellation.
The preserved medieval villages of the Empordà hinterland – Pals, Peratallada, and Monells – offer golden stone streets, Romanesque churches, and an atmosphere entirely untouched by mass tourism. They make perfect half-day excursions from the coast.
Summer on the Costa Brava is warm rather than scorching. Around Lloret de Mar, daytime highs typically sit near 25°C in June and reach about 28–29°C in July and August, while the sea climbs from roughly 19–20°C in June to around 23°C in August, refreshing by Mediterranean standards. Late May and early October usually bring highs in the low 20s: good for the coast path, cool for a long swim.
Rain comes in two bursts, spring and autumn, with October the wettest month at around 95mm. Summer thunderstorms are not unusual, and the northern end of the coast, towards Roses and Cadaqués, is exposed to the tramontana, a cold north wind that can blow for days.
The hotels set the calendar as much as the weather. All four on this deal are in Lloret de Mar and close for winter: GHT Aquarium & Spa opens from 25 March to 1 November in 2027, and Rosamar & Spa and Guitart Central Park keep similar April-to-October dates.
