Size is the first thing to weigh. A resort five times larger than its rival feels different at breakfast, at the pool and at the lifts. Neither is better in the abstract. The right one depends on who is in your party and how you like to spend a day.
Families: why Atlantis usually wins
Atlantis is a resort you can stay inside for the whole holiday. Aquaventure holds the Guinness World Records title for the most waterslides in a waterpark, awarded in September 2022. For children old enough to use the slides, it can fill several full days without repeating itself. Slides carry height limits, so check them with the resort before counting on it for smaller children.
The aquarium is the second reason. The Lost Chambers aquarium holds more than 65,000 marine animals. It gives families a cool, indoor option for the hottest part of the afternoon, which is useful from May to September.
The trade-off is scale. At busy times expect queues at the most popular slides, and walking between the lobby, the beach and Aquaventure takes time. A quiet book-by-the-pool week is not what this resort is built for.

Couples and honeymoons: the case for Al Qasr
Jumeirah Al Qasr is designed to look like a traditional Arabian summer palace, with a tree-lined approach and waterways running through the grounds. Abra boats carry guests along those canals to the other parts of Madinat Jumeirah. Souk Madinat Jumeirah, with its shops and waterside terraces, is a short walk from the lobby.
The result is a stay where an evening out needs no taxi. You can walk or take an abra to dinner and be back within minutes. For a couple on a short break, that removes most of the planning.
There is one 2026 caveat. Burj Al Arab, the sail-shaped hotel next to Al Qasr, closed in April 2026 for an 18-month restoration. Reopening is listed for October 2027. The building still dominates the view, but expect visible works until then, and its restaurants and tours are unavailable.

Location: the Palm crescent vs Madinat Jumeirah
Atlantis sits at the apex of the Palm Jumeirah crescent, the outer ring of the island. It faces open sea on one side and the Palmโs inner lagoon on the other. That position feels self-contained, but every trip off the resort starts with a drive back along the island.
For a family holiday built around the resort, that distance rarely matters. For a couple who plan to eat out across Dubai most nights, it adds a taxi to every evening. Do not confuse it with Atlantis The Royal, a separate hotel nearby on the same crescent.
Al Qasr is on the mainland in Umm Suqeim, part of the Madinat Jumeirah resort on Jumeirah Beach. It feels more connected to the city. The waterways and the souk give it a village layout, and the main Sheikh Zayed Road is a short drive inland.
Neither resort is within walking distance of Downtown Dubai or the old souks in Deira, so budget for taxis to the Burj Khalifa and the creek from either base.
In practice the location question becomes a lifestyle question. Atlantis suits people who want the holiday to come to them. Al Qasr suits people who want to step out of the lobby and have somewhere to go.
Dining in 2026: what is actually open
At the end of September 2026, Atlantis, The Palm has Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, Nobu, FZN by Bjรถrn Frantzรฉn and Wavehouse among its open venues. Ossiano, the underwater restaurant, is paused, and Atlantis says reopening dates depend on demand.
At Jumeirah Al Qasr, Pai Thai and Atrangi by Ritu Dalmia are open, and Margaux at neighbouring Mina AโSalam is trading. Only Al Nafoorah and Arboretum are listed as opening soon. Pierchic, Bar Buci, The Hide, Celeste and Al Fayrooz Lounge are temporarily closed.
This changes the comparison more than any room detail. At Atlantis, ask which of the open restaurants your dining plan covers when you book. At Al Qasr, plan evenings around the wider Madinat Jumeirah and check each venue is trading first.

What does a package include at each?
Both packages are built the same way. Return flights leave from London airports, with other UK airports available on request. A representative meets you at Dubai International Airport (DXB), and a private, air-conditioned vehicle takes you to the hotel and back at the end of the stay. Every package is protected under ATOL 10713.
The from-prices in the table are the lowest for dates after September 2026. For Atlantis that is November 2026. For Al Qasr in economy it is July 2027, which falls in the hottest part of the Dubai summer. January to April 2027 dates cost more at both resorts.
