Lobos Island Natural Reserve
Just two kilometres from Corralejo, the tiny uninhabited Isla de Lobos offers one of the Canary Islands’ finest natural reserve experiences: crystal-clear water for outstanding snorkelling, pristine beaches, strictly controlled visitor numbers ensuring natural integrity, and an extraordinary sense of discovery and peaceful natural solitude within easy reach of the main resort.
Arrive at Fuerteventura Airport and transfer north to Barcelo Corralejo Sands. Take an immediate walk along the extraordinary golden dunes beach and a refreshing Atlantic swim before dinner at the hotel or one of the excellent Corralejo seafood restaurants.
Walk south into the Corralejo Natural Park, where magnificent volcanic sand dunes constantly reshaped by the Atlantic trade winds create a landscape of extraordinary desert beauty at the edge of Europe. The protected natural park beaches here are among the finest on the island.
Drive north to the wonderful authentic fishing village of El Cotillo, with its traditional castle, excellent fresh fish restaurants, and the extraordinary natural lagoons at the village’s northern tip – a series of sheltered rock-pool swimming spots of remarkable natural beauty and calm.
Drive the full length of the island south to the magnificent Jandía Peninsula: the vast Playa de Sotavento (world-championship windsurfing beach) on the east, and the sheltered Playa de Morro Jable on the west. Return via traditional capital Betancuria and the fossil cliffs at Ajuy.
Take a windsurfing or kitesurfing lesson from the hotel beach schools in world-class Atlantic wind conditions, or enjoy paddleboarding, kayaking, and snorkelling as gentler alternatives in the warm, clear water.
